BILLY JOE BRADLEY
December 4, 1927 - March 30, 2015
Bill (Billy, Bill, BJ, Dad, Pa & Papa) was born and grew up in Elmore City, OK with three siblings. After high school graduation he joined the US Navy. He served in the Philippines and Japan. His brothers, Harold and Toby, served in the US Army at the same time. Bill loved his country and was so proud of his grandsons, Specialist Robert Bradley, who served in the US Army and Captain Tyler D. Schauer, who is proudly serving in the US Army today.
He was very musically inclined and played most instruments by ear. He had a beautiful voice and sang with his sister, Ileana Cagle, for many years. He had the great opportunity to perform for General McArthur while serving in the Navy. Bill was a night club owner in Chickasha, OK in the 50's & 60's and that is where he met the love of his life, Jan Harris, who he married on June 3, 1963.
Bill heard of the oil and gas boom occurring in San Juan County, NM and moved his young family to Farmington, NM in 1964. He worked in the oil and gas industry for 22 years. He loved people and missed being around others after his retirement, so he became a Wal-Mart door greeter. He worked for Wal-Mart for ten years and thoroughly enjoyed each and every person he met.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Zelaner (Nancy) Bradley, great grandson Timothy Bradley, brother Toby Bradley and sister Ileana Cagle.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jan Bradley, daughters, Sheila (Butch) Mathews of Farmington, Jo Jo (David) Tackitt of Palm Coast, FL, and son Billy (Sandy) Bradley of Farmington; brother, Harold Bradley of League City, TX and niece, Kim (Tom) Passmore of Odessa, TX; grandchildren, Robert (Coral) Bradley, Ruby McGarrh (Noah) of Austin, TX, Danielle McGarrh of Tucson, AZ, Trista Bradley of Tempe, AZ, Emily and Dalton Bradley of Farmington, Todd Schauer of Farmington and Captain Tyler Schauer stationed in El Paso, TX, along with 7 great grandchildren (Haleigh, Hannah, Madison, Olivia, Mya, Jayce and Mason) and all those he considered his kids and grandkids.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Saturday, April, 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Pinon Hills Community Church, 5101 N. Dustin Ave, Farmington, NM with Pastor Steven Liparoto officiating. Cremation has taken place.
