Robert Wayne Schmunk

Robert Schmunk was born on July 28, 1932 in Scottsbluff, NE to Alex W. and Mollie (Schick) Schmunk. He passed away June 19, 2016 at Aurora, CO. Bob grew up on a farm in Mitchell Valley, NE and attended Haig School K-8 and graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1950. In 1952 he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Port Hueneme, CA a base for the Navy Seabees. He served twice at Subic Bay in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1956. In 1954 he married Naomi Newkirk at Scottsbluff, NE. In December of 1956 they moved to San Diego, CA here he worked until 1972 when they moved to Nebraska and then to Aurora, CO in 1976. He was a Farmers Insurance Agent until 1991 when he retired.Robert is survived by Naomi, his wife of 61 years. Four children also survive – Rhonda (Jon) Maxcy of Bridgeport, NE – Robert Schmunk, Jr. of Alliance, NE – Norman Schmunk (Donna Jarrard) of Aurora CO – Lori (Robert) Murphy of Aurora, CO. Grandchildren are Jon Maxcy, Jeremy Maxcy, Justin Maxcy, Jaimie Maxcy, Mollie (Eric) Strand, Sarah Schmunk (Billy Awe), Amie (Michael) LeCount, Stephen Murphy, and Phillip Murphy. Great grandchildren are Adam Strand, Kinsley LeCount, Evan LeCount and Henry Awe. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Niell of Lincon, NE and brother Paul (Joyce) Schmunk of Scottsbluff, NE.
