Katherine Grace (Scott) Van Alstine, age 80, daughter of Albert and Mabel (Bennett) Scott passed away on March 4, 2024 in Denver Colorado.
She married her high school sweetheart, Ronald Van Alstine, Sr. on July 2, 1960. They celebrated 53 anniversaries together. Ronald Van Alstine, Sr. passed away November 22nd, 2013.
Kathy was always the other half of Ron. They would be on their motorcycle or their little sports car touring back roads, enjoying the day and often stopping to get ice cream. Kathy worked with Ron side by side helping to build homes for all of those years. Thirty years ago, they began wintering in Florida and coming back to Sacandaga Lake, Mayfield, NY from May to October. For the past 11+/- years Kathy would go to Chi Gong every Monday while in Fl and volunteer to give reiki to those interested. She volunteered at the Citrus County Family Resource Center in FL providing clothing, food and most importantly the “Sponsor a Child for Christmas” which served over 2000 children.
Kathy is survived by her three living children, Connie & Joe Larkin of Denver, CO, Ronald Van Alstine, Jr. and Dianne Wojtkun of Cambridge, NY, and Penny Van Alstine of Lakehills, Texas. Seven grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren: Brittany & Tom Gutberg with children Dylan & Emma, Jerad & Alexa Larkin with children Jack, Ava & Mia, Robert Van Alstine, Emily Cornell, Eva Cornell, Scott Van Alstine, Dan Van Alstine and one step granddaughter Colleen (O’Connell) & Kevin Chamber and their boys, Noah & Adrien. Kathy’s sisters Betsy (Scott) & Ron McGovern and Lynda (Scott) Prime. There are many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by granddaughter Samantha Lynn Van Alstine, daughter-in-law Kelly O’Connell Van Alstine, son in-law Richard Lewis, sister Marion Scott and brother-in-law Dennis Prime. All sisters-in-law & their husbands and brother-in law on Ronald Van Alstine’s family side preceded in death with the exception of Sylvia (Van Alstine) Lapi.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 6th, 2024 at 10 am Freysbush Cemetery, Fort Plain, NY. Following the service there will be a Celebration of Life at the South Minden Firehouse.
