John "Huck" Stahl, 82, passed away on June 3rd, 2024, in Denver, CO. He was born in New York, grew up in New Jersey and then Washington, D.C. Later in life he moved to Denver to be near family and there made many friends who became such an important and cherished part of his later life.
John graduated in the upper third of his class at St. John's College High School in D.C. and was then accepted into Georgetown University. He was a member of the Air National Guard where he became an air traffic controller. The past eight years he volunteered at Denver Health Medical Center, where he was named Volunteer of the Year for 2018, one of his proudest achievements. He also volunteered for four years with Reading Partners Colorado as a reading tutor, helping students overcome their reading difficulties and reach their potential. The smiles on his students faces when they mastered their lessons always brought him great joy.
John had a passion for horse racing, and was a big fan of his D.C. and Denver sports teams over the years. He enjoyed country and bluegrass music as well as doo wop music, and spent many hours watching music videos on You Tube and nature videos on TV.
His warm smile, caring demeanor and sense of humor made him a favorite of many he met throughout his life.
John is survived by the love of his life, Irma, and his siblings, Sharron, Gail and Ken and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, John Harry and Ethel Mary Stahl, and his brother- in-law and close friend Bernie. He also leaves behind the many dear friends he made over the years at Denver Health Medical Center, his home away from home.
A private Celebration of Life will be held for John at Denver Health Medical Center. Donations in his name can be made to the Denver Health Foundation (John Stahl Fund) or the Denver Dumb Friends League.
